Dentons set for double swoop in Latin America

The combinations will bring about the first physical presence in Latin America and the Caribbean for the global giant and follows on from the combinations with Austrialian Gadens and and Singaporean firm Rodyk, as well as the high-profile merger with China’s Dacheng, having made it the largest global law firm by lawyer count. Its most recent venture saw the extension of its offerings in Luxembourg, through a tie-up with OPF Partners.
Operating through the Swiss Verein structure, Dentons has been rapidly expanding over the past year, having completed mergers with Dacheng in China (13 February) and McKenna Long & Aldridge in the United States (10 April). Dentons has also seen recent growth in Europe with the launch of a Milan office (6 October) and the hiring of 50 lawyers in Budapest (16 April).
Through these Latin American combinations, Dentons hopes to strengthen their offerings in Arbitration & Litigation, Banking & Finance, Corporate, Energy, IP, Mining and Telecommunications. Joe Andrew, Dentons’ Global Chairman, said that “the Latin American and Caribbean region is of significant import to our clients” and, through entering the region by way of two of its top four economies, Dentons hopes to deliver on its strategy of providing services wherever its clients need it.
