Arbitral court of Barcelona elects Frederic Munné as president

The Barcelona Arbitration Court (TAB) has elected Frederic Munné as its new president. The Barcelona lawyer and arbitrator heads the board of directors and takes over from Juli de Miquel, who had presided since April 2018. The vice presidents under the new mandate are Antoni Fitó i Baucells (vice president of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce) and notary Antoni Bosch Carrera. The registrar Luis Fernández del Pozo will be the new secretary and the new board of directors is completed by lawyers Cristina Vallejo i Ros and Joan Martínez García.

Munné is a lawyer, Doctor of Law and arbitrator and was already a TAB board member. He is also a member of the governing board of the Illustrious Bar Association of Barcelona (ICAB) and will chair the TAB with the aim of reinforcing its status as an international benchmark, further enhancing its transparency and good governance and amplifying the culture of alternative dispute resolution.

Munné said that he "faces this responsibility with a passion for arbitration and the conviction that, now more than ever, society requires arbitration to facilitate conflict management in an agile, efficient and economical way." The new president thanked Miquel for "the outstanding and exemplary work" at the head of the institution, as well as "the confidence of the members of the new board of directors and the institutions associated with TAB". He also stressed that "as a result of the crises that are affecting our society, the arbitration practice must decisively help reduce judicial congestion in favor of the rights and well-being of citizens."
