Colombian law firm Posse Herrera Ruiz has announced the incorporation of Juan Manuel Cuellar as a partner in its energy practice.

“Juan Manuel is a highly reputable professional in the energy and hydrocarbons sector, with more than 24 years of experience in regulatory matters, management of legal issues before authorities and has been at the forefront of large transactions, which allows him to move with dexterity in complex environments and offer effective alternatives to his clients with agility,” according to the firm.

Prior to joining Posse Herrera Ruiz, Juan Manuel had been in charge of high-level legal and corporate matters in important companies in the sector, including Ecopetrol, Hocol, Emerald Energy, Repsol, Worley, Bioenergy and Trina Solar, where he has also had a key participation in associations such as ACP and SER.

“His deep knowledge in the field has led him to be arbitrator of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce for Hydrocarbons, Mines and Energy, and an active member of the Association of International Energy Negotiators (AIEN), of the Mines, Oil and Energy Bar Association (CAMPE) and a professor on the specialization courses in mining, energy and sustainable development law at the Universidad de los Andes.

Among his wealth of experience, he held the positions of Brazil general counsel and general counsel in Colombia for renewable energy company Trina Solar, and the position of legal manager for Colombia at Spanish oil company Repsol. He has also been employed as advisor to the vice presidency of refining at Colombia’s state oil company Ecopetrol.

A highly qualified lawyer, Juan Manuel holds an MBA from Tulane University and an MBA from the Universidad ICECI, in addition to a JD from the Universidad de los Andes.
