ClarkeModet appoints new managing director for Portugal
Global Industrial and Intellectual Property-focused law firm ClarkeModet has announced the appointment of Maria Cruz Garcia as the firm’s new managing director for Portugal, and who is also in charge of the firm’s business development division in the country.
Maria Cruz joined ClarkeModet in 2020 and is a lawyer and industrial property agent with a career spanning more than 16 years. Before joining the firm, her previous roles included partner at law firm J. Pereira da Cruz.
During her career she has focused her practice on a wide range of areas, including litigation and commercial law, as well as in marketing and legal communications roles.
"Working hand-in-hand with companies committed to research and development is the best way to understand the real needs of innovators and creatives, and to find the most appropriate solutions that industrial property offers,” Maria Cruz says.
“With this approach, we in the management at ClarkeModet Portugal will accompany domestic and foreign companies operating in the country to get the most out of these assets, and which are increasingly important in the global market,” she added.
Her appointment strengthens the local and international positioning of its Portuguese subsidiary, which was founded in 1965 and is one of the oldest companies in the group, the firm said in a statement.
"In recent years, ClarkeModet has been committed to strengthening its strategic consulting services worldwide, for which it is incorporating new and increasingly specialized profiles and revolutionary technologies in the protection of intangible assets, such as Blockchain and artificial intelligence," the firm added.
Maria Cruz Garcia holds a law degree from the Portuguese Catholic University and has completed two post-graduate courses in industrial property.
She is a member of the Portuguese Bar Association, and since 2013 has served as secretary general of the Portuguese Group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property.
She is also an active member of international organizations such as the Federation of Industrial Property Attorneys.
ClarkeModet is a leading intellectual property law firm in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries and was founded in Spain in 1879. In addition to Spain and Portugal, the firm now has a presence in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
