Stephenson Harwood appointed Juan Oñate as Managing Partner of its Madrid office

The appointment formed part of Stephenson Harwood’s strategy to establish a full-service presence in Spain and strengthen its position in the Iberian market ahead of the launch of its Madrid office.

Stephenson Harwood announced the appointment of Juan Oñate as Managing Partner of its Madrid office, bringing on board the restructuring and insolvency specialist from Pérez-Llorca to lead the firm's expansion in Spain.

Oñate joined the firm with extensive experience advising on complex domestic and cross-border restructuring and insolvency matters. His practice covers the negotiation and implementation of restructuring agreements, acquisitions and recovery of non-performing loan portfolios, directors’ liability disputes, clawback actions, distressed M&A transactions, and civil and commercial litigation.

Throughout his career, he has advised listed companies, major Spanish corporate groups, financial institutions, investment funds, and international investors on high-profile restructuring and insolvency matters.

According to Stephenson Harwood, the appointment represented a key milestone in its plans to build a strong platform in Spain, supporting clients on increasingly sophisticated cross-border transactions, restructurings, and disputes across the Iberian market.
