Squire Patton Boggs strengthens its Litigation practice in Spain with the appointment of former State Attorney Lorena Fatás

Squire Patton Boggs has announced the appointment of Lorena Fatás as partner in its Litigation Practice Group in Madrid. Formerly a State Attorney in the Special Department for Economy, Energy and Environmental Law within Spain’s State Attorney Office, Fatás is widely recognised for her experience handling complex litigation, arbitration, and regulatory disputes.

Before joining Squire Patton Boggs, Lorena Fatás spent more than five years in the Spanish government’s International Arbitration Department, where she became Deputy Head in 2021. During that period, she advised and represented the Kingdom of Spain in complex investor-state disputes, particularly under the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) and bilateral investment treaties (BITs).
Her practice focuses on investment and commercial disputes, sovereign state representation, and advisory work in sectors including banking, energy, infrastructure, and state-owned enterprises. She also has extensive experience in the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards across multiple jurisdictions, as well as in proceedings before institutions such as ICSID and SCC. Her work in international arbitration has additionally been recognised by UNCITRAL, where she participated in one of its working groups on ISDS reform.
