Hong Kong, next stop for Taylor Wessing?

Tm Eyles was recently re-elected for a third term as managing partner of the multinational British law firm. His vision? To expand evermore internationally with eyes set on Hong Kong.

According to Eyles, there is already a strong presence of the firm in Europe with offices in Paris, London, Brussels, Hambourg, and Prague, to name a few. As a result, he didn’t see the need to expand into areas like Italy, Portugal, or Spain.

This announcement for another expansion plan comes after there was a 2014-2015 UK turnover increase of 8.2 percent, raising the global revenue from £121m up to £239.8m, and a nomination by The Lawyer Awards for best Law Firm of the year.

The focus for Mr. Eyles’ strategy for growth and development has been and most likely will continue to be in technology, private wealth, life sciences and media and communications in order to mirror the industries that the firm represents.

Part of the growth also meant adding partners from other major firms like Antoaneta Proctor from Wragge Lawrence Graham, Elaine Dobson from Bircham Dyson Bell, as well as Adrian Rainey from Taylor Vinters.

For Eyles, Asia is a priority region with a lot of room for growth as it sits at 38th place in the largest international firms in Asia, according to The Lawyer Asia Pacific 150, having already expanded with Asian entities such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and signing with the Indonesian firm Hanafiah Ponggawa & Partners in 2013.

For the newly elected managing partner, it can be said that the retention and the growth of talent is the most important thing for the firm as it revolutionizes its presence globally and develops its global presence in a strategic way.
