Baroffio has been with the firm, which has offices in Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Uruguay, for 10 years, and has contributed to strengthening our leadership in his practice area and to broadening the firm’s support to the community.
“He is a top-notch practitioner, and this promotion reflects one of Ferrere’s pillars in the region: growth based on effort and merit,” the firm said in statement.
Baroffio’s appointment brings the firm’s total regional partner count to 31, with 10 new partners having joined the firm in the last three years, all of whom are under 40 years of age, which is the result of a young talent recruitment policy, mandatory early partner retirement, and a prohibition of partners’ family members joining the firm.
“Baroffio is a specialist in labor law, labor relations and social security, with a focus on the construction, energy and finance sectors, and is very active in collective bargaining conflicts. He is a referent in collective negotiations in Uruguay, chiefly in the construction industry,” the firm said.
“He has high-level experience in advising on complex corporate restructurings and regularly acts as compliance officer in situations of employment and sexual harassment situations, and in relation to corporate codes of ethics, among other areas, in addition to advising on the impacts of regulatory changes affecting labor relations.”
Baroffio has handled a stellar list of clients, including JCDecaux, Ingener, Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF), Nuvó Cosméticos and Sabre and Riogas, among others, and has achieved precedent-setting agreements in union negotiations.
He also participates on the founding committee of Ferrere Transforma, the firm’s corporate social responsibility program, which aims to develop the abilities of organizations receiving Ferrere’s support, thereby contributing to their sustainability.
In addition, as part of Ferrere’s diversity committee, Baroffio led the implementation of the cross-mentorship program, in which the firm’s senior members guide practitioners, principally women, in the early stages of their careers.
Baroffio earned a law degree from the Law School of Uruguay’s Universidad de la República in 2008. He is co-author of the books ‘Manual Práctico de la Construcción’ and ‘Leyes de Tercerización,’ and has also published articles on labor law and social security in specialized reviews.
He has held the position of lecturer in labor regulations and taxation at the Universidad ORT in Uruguay) and in labor and social security law at Universidad de la República.
