E.ON Drive Secures ASPI Contract to Develop Ultra-Fast EV Charging Network on Italian Motorways

E.ON Drive Infrastructure Italy secured the award of the competitive procedure launched by Autostrade per l’Italia for the allocation of three lots aimed at the development of an ultra-fast electric vehicle charging network along the national motorway system.
The project provides for the installation, in 2026, of 104 high-power charging points across 18 service areas located along the main East–West and North–South corridors, including the A4 (Turin–Trieste) and A14 (Bologna–Taranto) motorways.
The new stations will be developed as sustainable energy hubs, equipped with photovoltaic systems, BESS energy storage solutions and ultra-fast charging columns of up to 400 kW, capable of offering rapid charging powered 100% by certified renewable energy.
The ASPI procedure forms part of a national programme providing for the development of new charging infrastructures in 60 service areas, in line with the requirements of the European Regulation on Alternative Fuels Infrastructure (“AFIR”), aimed at ensuring uniform standards for long-distance electric mobility.
Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) assisted E.ON Drive with a team comprising Partner Giannalberto Mazzei and Senior Associate Cesare Fossati on all matters relating to participation in the competitive procedure. Counsel Arianna Neri handled the contractual and corporate aspects.
Avv. Mazzei commented: “We are pleased to have supported E.ON Drive in an operation of major strategic relevance, which contributes to the development of a modern and widespread charging network and represents an important step towards an increasingly open, competitive market oriented towards the energy transition.”
Michele De Gaspari, Managing Director of E.ON Drive, commented: “The result achieved in the ASPI competitive procedure is the outcome of the extraordinary work of many people, whom I thank: this milestone demonstrates what we can build when we combine expertise, dedication and team spirit. Special thanks go to WFW, which supported us with great professionalism throughout the entire process. We are not only developing infrastructure, but also making a concrete contribution to the transition towards more sustainable mobility.”
