Chilean law firm Lathrop Mujica Herrera & Diez Abogados has announced the appointment of Mauricio López Lastra as the firm’s new tax partner.

Mauricio will co-lead the tax practice alongside partner José María Diez, meaning the practice will be jointly led by two highly experienced partners with complementary areas of specialization, focused on advising large corporations and family-owned businesses.

Mauricio has an outstanding track record in providing tax advice to large corporations, with recognition in regulated industries such as mining, energy, capital markets, banking, and financial services.

“What attracted me to this project is its dynamic growth and the opportunity to build, together with José María Diez, a robust tax practice capable of supporting increasingly sophisticated business decisions,” Mauricio said.

“This is a firm that naturally integrates different legal disciplines and incorporates new technologies into professional practice, enabling us to deliver legal advice with a different level of speed and depth,” he added. “Sophisticated clients today expect strategic counsel — not merely legal expertise — and that requires us to remain consistently one step ahead.”

Fernando Lathrop, a partner at the firm, also underscored the strategic significance of this incorporation: “Mauricio’s arrival is a clear indication of the direction in which we are building the firm. Strengthening the tax practice with two partners —Mauricio and José María — reflects our conviction that our clients, particularly medium-sized and large companies, as well as family-owned businesses, require integrated, strategic, and high-standard counsel”.

“Mauricio brings a recognized track record in regulated sectors that enhances our practices and further strengthens the firm’s value proposition,” he added.

With the appointment, Lathrop Mujica Herrera & Diez further strengthens its multidisciplinary full-service model, integrating corporate, real estate, environmental and natural resources, labor and employment, and tax practices, serving clients across more than 20 industries.
