Andersen has appointed Víctor Barrio, formerly of Hogan Lovells, as a new partner in its Tax department in Spain. He brings over 20 years of experience in tax litigation and a distinctive specialization in aerospace and telecommunications regulatory law. He is also Vice-President of the Spanish Association of Aeronautical and Space Law (AEDAE) and a member of the International Association for the Advancement of Space Safety.
Barrio joins Andersen from Hogan Lovells, where he served as Senior Associate for Tax Controversy and Space Regulatory. He previously held positions at other leading firms, including Garrigues, Cuatrecasas, and EY Abogados.
As a tax specialist, he advises national and international clients on a broad range of tax proceedings, including management, audits, collection processes, and litigation — both at the administrative and judicial levels. His experience includes representing clients before Spanish national courts, such as the Constitutional Court, as well as international bodies like the Court of Justice of the European Union. He also has extensive experience in tax collection matters, including suspension of payments, deferrals, and installment arrangements.
Barrio holds a Law degree from the Complutense University of Madrid, a Master’s in Taxation from the Garrigues Study Centre, and an Executive Course in Space Law and Regulations from the European Space Agency. He also combines his legal practice with teaching at the Judicial School, the Master’s in Taxation at the Garrigues Study Centre, and the Postgraduate Course in Aeronautical and Space Law at ICADE. He is a regular speaker at industry courses and seminars.
José Vicente Morote, managing partner of Andersen Iberia, expressed his satisfaction with the appointment: “Víctor Barrio strengthens our Tax department with a highly specialised profile and proven technical expertise, which is essential in today’s increasingly global and evolving regulatory environment.” He added: “His expertise in aerospace and telecommunications law further enhances our position in highly technical and strategic sectors, where legal advice must be paired with a deep understanding of the technological and regulatory landscape.”
