The Anglo-German firm, which celebrated 20 years in Paris with a glitzy bash at the Palais de Tokyo earlier this month, stated that Samothrakis’ arrival would help the above department better serve both traditional players and insurtechs.

“Yannis will strengthen our department and bring his regulatory expertise to our partners and enable the Taylor Wessing teams to support [clients] in their growth operations, as well as in the development and distribution of their insurance and reinsurance products,” commented Pierre-Olivier Leblanc, (re)Insurance & industrial risks practice head.

Taylor Wessing’s newest partner regularly acts for insurers, reinsurers and intermediaries both in France and further afield, helping them put together complex insurance and reinsurance offers, in addition to corporate maneuvers, such as branch or subsidiary openings, acquisitions and mergers.

Yannis Samothrakis began his career in 2000 in the international legal department of Skandia Life in the UK before spending three years at Insurance Europe, the European insurance and reinsurance federation. Prior to joining Taylor Wessing he had stops at the law firms Dewey & LeBoeuf and, latterly, Clyde & Co.

Among his academic qualifications is an MA in European industrial relations, from Warwick University, and a masters in private law from Lille university.
