The Spanish legal community as well as the IBA (International Bar Association), led by Spanish lawyer, Almudena Arpon de Mendvivil, have adhered to the institutional declaration the Governing Board of the Madrid Bar Association (ICAM) approved on November 9, 2023 concerning the document signed by the PSOE and JUNTS with a reference to lawfare. Law firms taking a public stand firms include Garrigues, Pérez-Llorca, Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, Cuatrecasas, RocaJunyent, Uría Menéndez, Allen & Overy Spain, Linklaters Spain, DLA Piper, Ontier, Eversheds Sutherland Spain, Broseta among others.
According to ICAM (Ilustre Colegio de la Abogacía de Madrid), the instrumentalization of justice for political purposes through the creation of parliamentary commissions of inquiry to audit jurisdictional actions is a violation to the separation of powers and to the democratic rule of law proclaimed in the Spanish Constitution.
