Spanish mid-market private equity firm Sherpa Capital has signed José María Retana from Miotek Factory as new investment director.

Retana has more than a decade of experience in the M&A and private equity sector. In the last year he worked as Chief Financial Officer and head of business development  at Spain's Miotek, after five years at Springwater Capital and four years at Banco Espírito Santo Investment Bank.

His addition to the Sherpa Capital team comes after the firm reached a final closing of €120m for its new "special situations" fund 'Sherpa Special Situations III' in the middle of last year.

The firm specializes in investments in mid-sized companies in the Iberian Peninsula that are facing transformation situations due to both restructuring and growth. It manages more than €500m through special situations and private equity funds.
