In early September, São Paulo-based firm Souza, Mello e Torres announced the inauguration of its new branch in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the recruitment of new tax partner, Renata Ribeiro Kingston.
With almost 20 years of experience in the legal market, Ms. Kingston has previously worked at Vale both as its global head of tax as well as its head of legal operations and is known for her expertise in tax litigation and consultancy, corporate reorganizations and crisis management. Notably, Ms. Kingston led Vale's reparation negotiations related to the rupture of the Fundão and Brumadinho dams before the State and Federal authorities.
Academically, she holds a Master’s in Corporate Law from Ibmec and a LL.M. in International Business from Northwestern University (USA).
“I am very excited to face this new challenge and to be able to offer legal services of excellence to our Rio-based clients. The firm already represents important companies based in Rio and this closer geographic presence will ensure better performances. Moreover, we believe there is still a market to be developed in the state.”, stated Ms. Kingston.
The firm's Rio de Janeiro branch will focus on tax, M&A, corporate, litigation, oil & gas, antitrust, compliance, capital markets and project finance mandates.
