PPU names new partners and regional directors

Law firm Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría (PPU) has incorporated three new partners and three other area directors at a regional level.

PPU names new partners and regional directors

The new partners are Gerardo Flórez from the intellectual property group in Colombia, together with Nicolás Santana and Arturo Selman, the latter Chileans linked to the venture capital and tax practices, respectively.

Arturo Selman joins the PPU tax team and his practice focuses on the resolution of tax controversies, both in administrative and judicial proceedings. He has more than 10 years of experience and has participated and successfully led different types of proceedings before the Internal Revenue Service and highly complex tax litigation before the tax and customs courts and Superior Courts of Justice in matters of national and international taxation and transfer pricing.

Selman holds a master’s degree in taxation from the Universidad de Chile.

For his part, Nicolás Santana is a member of the corporate M&A and venture capital and tech practices, and focuses on advising clients in mergers and acquisitions, asset sales and acquisitions, joint ventures and restructurings. In venture capital, he has advised startups in capital raising processes (seed, A and B series), foreign venture capital funds in their investments in local startups and multinationals in the development of corporate venture capital projects. Likewise, he has advised local and foreign fintechs dedicated to digital wealth management, payment methods and alternative transaction platforms.

He holds an LLM in corporate governance and practice from Stanford University in the US, and a law degree from the Universidad de los Andes.

And new partner Gerardo Florez is an expert in intellectual property and life sciences, focusing in addition on regulatory and advertising law, such as trademark law, copyright, Internet law, technology, unfair competition, domain names, personal data protection, consumer protection and health law. He has more than 15 years of experience advising national and foreign clients, and holds a commercial law degree from the Universidad de los Andes and a master's degree in IP from George Washington University.

Prior to joining PPU, Florez was a foreign associate at Ladas & Parry LLP in New York.

In addition, three new directors have been appointed: Colombian Camilo Suárez and Chileans Constanza Rodríguez and Daniel Parodi, who work in the areas of intellectual property, capital markets and banking and finance, respectively.

Camilo Suárez specializes in intellectual property litigation/pre-litigation, probative law and in commercial matters particularly those pertaining to industrial property, competition law, as well as judicial prosecution of civil and administrative matters. He has more than 12 years of legal practice in the above fields, both advising and acting on behalf of national and international clients representing those before judicial, arbitral and administrative authorities.

Constanza Rodríguez is a member of the corporate/M&A, venture capital and capital markets group. Her practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and corporate law. She has advised clients on public offerings, listing processes, corporate governance matters, as well as on debt issues.

Prior to joining PPU, she worked as an international associate at Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr. e Quiroga Advogados in Brazil, in the capital markets area. She holds a diploma in corporate finance from the Business School at the Universidad de Chile and a law degree from the Universidad Pontificia Católica de Chile.

Daniel Parodi holds an LLM from the University of Viriginia in the US and is a member of PPU’s banking, finance and capital markets and infrastructure and projects teams. His professional practice focuses on advising domestic and foreign developers, debtors and financiers in the financing of assets and projects. Daniel develops an important part of his practice in the financing of aircraft and ships and also advises Chilean companies and foreign underwriters in bond issues by Chilean debtors in international markets.
