Seasoned tax attorney Márcio Calvet Neves announced, in late September, the launch of his new Rio-based firm, CalvetNeves

The recently launched firm will focus on assisting clients with tax and public policy matters related to the industrial and services sectors, prioritizing segments which have the potential to create jobs and stimulate the economy.

Mr. Neves’ self-declared goal is to become an agent of positive transformation in Brazil, acting as a gateway for foreign multinational investments and assisting national companies with making social impact contributions in the country.

With over 25 years of experience in the legal market, he has previously acted as a legal consultant for Arthur Andersen LLP and as a partner at distinguished law firm Veirano Advogados. Alongside his new challenge, Mr. Neves is also an advisory board member at RestartUs, an Australian-based startup which promotes digital inclusion as a form of providing the most vulnerable with better access to jobs, credit and education.

Academically, he holds a postgraduate degree in corporate and economic law from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and Master’s degrees in taxation, political science and public policies from Georgetown University, Universidade Federal Fluminense and University of Melbourne, respectively.

“CalvetNeves is a national corporate firm which will integrate social responsibility to the firm's tax consultancy practice.  Our proposal goes beyond what is commonly practiced as corporate social responsibility or ESG in Brazil. The idea is not only to mitigate the social damage which corporate activity may cause, without questioning the active role that we have in generating such damages.”, stated Mr. Neves.
