Luiz Otávio Pimentel stepped in as new president for INPI in Brazil

The President of the Republic, Dilma Rousseff, has appointed Luiz Otávio Pimentel as president of the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) in Brazil.

With a Doctorate of Legal Sciences, Pimentel has experience in the public policy with a particular focus on intellectual property and innovation and extensive academic research in this field. He is an associate professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, a lecturer at the Academy of Intellectual Property, as well as an Ad Hoc arbitrator for the Mercosur Arbitration Court.


The new president of the PTO holds a degree in Law and Social Sciences from Cruz Alta Law School, a master's degree in Law from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina and a PhD in Legal Studies with courses taken at the University of Barcelona and thesis completion at the Universidade Nacional de Assunção.
