Lobo & Ibeas Splits Into Five

Posted on May 21, 2018

Established firm Lobo & Ibeas Advogados has split into at least five new firms after over four decades as a major name in the Brazilian legal market.

The firm, which officially ceased to exist on the 1st of April, was founded by partners Carlos Augusto da Silveira Lobo and Hugo Ibeas. Lobo & Ibeas frequently represented leading companies from an array of sectors providing them with services ranging from consultancy to litigation and arbitration from its offices located in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

Over the years, Lobo & Ibeas stood out in key areas such as mining, M&A and real estate and made a name for itself by handling eye-catching deals such as advising Anglo American on its high-profile USD 1.5 billion sale of niobium and phosphate assets to China Molybdenum in 2016. Recently, the firm underwent a restructuring process which was finally concluded this month with several partners moving on to pastures anew.

Lobo & Lira Advogados, one of the larger firm to emerge from the split, is now officially open for business both in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. This new team includes Carlos Augusto da Silveira Lobo, José Ricardo Pereira Lira, Sergio Vieira, Frederico Kastrup de Faro, Joana Ribeiro, Paulo Chor, Juliana Zielinsky and Alessandro Torresi as partners.

Remaining partners at Lobo & Ibeas have either joined existing firms – Pedro Paulo Salles Cristofaro, for example, has recently joined Chediak Advogados as partner -  or are currently in the process of setting-up their new firms.  According to a press released issue by Lobo & Ibeas, these new firms will be able to work together through cooperation agreements.
