Licks Attorneys Makes Six New Partners

In early September, Licks Attorneys announced its latest wave of promotions.

On September 1st, Brazilian IP powerhouse Licks Attorneys unveiled six new partners, in a move which further strengthens the firm's technology, intellectual property and regulatory departments, amongst others. New partners Douglas Leite (Data Protection and Privacy), Roberto Carapeto (Patents and Anti-Counterfeiting), Ricardo Campello (Patents, Public Law and Regulation), Julia Neves (Public Law and Intellectual Property), Tatiana Machado (Intellectual Property, Competition and Regulation) and Roberto Rodrigues (Patents) are all home-grown talents and have each been with the firm for at least five years.

 

The New Partners

Douglas Leite has a master’s degree in Regulation Law from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV/RJ) and is an expert in privacy and data protection issues. He joined Licks Attorneys in 2012 and has a vast experience dealing with complex litigation involving regulatory and patent issues on behalf of high-flying technology, telecommunications and pharmaceutical companies.

 

With a master’s and a PhD in Intellectual Property from the University of Waseda (Japan), Roberto Carapeto is head of Licks Attorney’s Tokyo office since 2012 and focuses his practice on patent litigation, anti-counterfeiting measures and unfair competition. Fluent in Japanese, Mr. Carapeto additionally provides counsel on technology transfer agreements, IP rights prosecution and licensing matters.

 

Specializing in public law and regulation, Ricardo Campello holds a master’s in Government Procurement from the George Washington University (USA) and has been a part of the firm’s Rio de Janeiro branch for almost eight years. Mr. Campello is well-known for his extensive experience advising players from the biotech, pharmaceutical and medical devices sectors on patent litigation, public procurement and regulatory mandates. 

 

São Paulo-based attorney Juliana Neves has been at Licks Attorneys for nearly six years. She holds an LL.M. in Intellectual Property law from Pontíficia Universidade Católica (PUC/RJ) and a postgraduate degree in Bids and Administrative Contracts from Fundação Getúlio Vargas. Now, as a new partner, Ms. Neves will focus her practice on complex patent, regulatory and antitrust litigation cases, representing companies from the pharmaceutical and agrochemical fields.

 

With an impressive academic background, Tatiana Machado holds a master’s degree in Civil Procedural Law from Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) where she is also currently pursuing her doctorate. Ms. Machado was a guest researcher at renowned institutions such as Maastricht University (Netherlands), Chizaiken (Japan) and Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München (Germany). Ms. Machado is frequently sought out for her cutting-edge expertise in intellectual property, antitrust and regulatory issues and has been at the firm since 2011.

 

Roberto Rodrigues has been an associate at Licks Attorneys for over nine years and is the head of the firm’s client engagement group. Mr. Rodrigues holds a master’s in Science and Technology Law from Stanford University (USA) and now, as partner, will focus on complex cases involving the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and telecommunication industries.
