On the tri-border frontier, KPMG opens a new office in Aachen, Germany
Posted on Jan 27, 2025

KPMG is the first of the “Big Four” firms to establish a presence in the Aachen region, with the opening of its 30th office in the historic Carmeliterhöfe in Aachen.
The city of Aachen and the cross-border Rhine-Maas region are of great economic and scientific importance. Aachen is home to many successful businesses and RWTH Aachen University, a center of excellence renowned for its outstanding and highly skilled talent.
In the tri-border area, clients will benefit from the expertise of the globally connected KPMG organization. The new location currently employs around 20 staff members, according to the company, and offers services in auditing, tax, and legal advisory. The site is led by tax partner Uwe Demel and senior manager Dominik Claßen from the audit division.
Expanding beyond metropolitan areas
While the other Big Four firms also have offices in Düsseldorf and Cologne, KPMG stands alone in Aachen.
Aachen, as the center of the tri-border region, is economically significant and an attractive location due to the excellence of RWTH Aachen University and FH Aachen. With the opening of its 30th office in Germany, KPMG has been pursuing a strategy of opening offices beyond major metropolitan areas to expand its presence in less centralized regions. For instance, KPMG opened offices in Münster in 2022 and Friedrichshafen in 2023.
Münster, Friedrichshafen, and Aachen share the distinction of being university cities. KPMG hopes this will offer recruitment advantages in a competitive job market.
