Peruvian law firm Hernández & Cía has pulled off a significant coup, with the lateral hire of Jorge Reátegui, the former co-lead of PPU’s real estate practice. Reátegui becomes head partner of Hernández & Cía’s real estate practice area.

The firm has been on a steady growth path during the past four years, and this latest appointment brings the partner count to 20 and bumps up the headcount more than 80 lawyers.

Reátegui, who has more than 20 years’ experience, has been involved in different transactions regarding the diagnosis, negotiation and acquisition of land on behalf of major residential developments, retail, hospitality, mining, telecom, education, agroindustrial and infrastructure, having closed multiple state-owned allocations and easement imposition procedures as well as been involved in the negotiation processes with private companies, individuals and peasant communities.

He co-leads a team of lawyers in real estate and construction matters known for having a highly technical approach since they are used to working alongside engineers, architects and urban developers. He also has conducted processes for the granting of licenses and permits for retailers and other companies nationwide.

He joins the firm alongside senior associate Alan Pasco, who has vast experience in clearance of rural and urban real estate property, complex transactions, and land acquisition. Associate Vicente Portugal also joins.

“Bringing Jorge Reátegui and his team provides extra muscle to our existing real estate practice area. His expertise and highly technical approach on complex real estate matters is a perfect complement to the service we already offer and it goes alongside the growth plan we set 4 years ago that will for sure prevail despite the harsh times the country is facing due to the pandemic,” said managing partner, Juan Luis Hernández.

“My team and I were truly motivated to continue our practice at Hernández & Cía. Abogados, being a firm that, in recent years, has not only grown significantly in the local market but is aware of the value and high level of specialization that a real estate practice area must have. This also led us to the conclusion of sharing the same comprehensive vision in the care of real estate matters and being perfectly synchronized in complementing the particular experience that the firm currently has with the proven experience of the team that accompanies me in this new and motivating challenge. Along with this, we are very sure that the firm will consolidate itself and become a leader in the real estate practice in the short term, together with the other areas that already boast an exceptional expertise,” added new partner, Jorge Reátegui.
