A historic moment for GRUR: Dr. Anke Nordemann-Schiffel elected as first female President

For the first time in its more than 130-year history, GRUR – the German Association for Intellectual Property Law (Deutsche Vereinigung für Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz und Urheberrecht e.V.) – has elected a woman as its President, a true milestone in the association’s history.

The election of Dr. Nordemann-Schiffel was celebrated during the GRUR Annual Conference in Berlin, notably at the GRUR Women Special, where members gathered to honor this important step towards greater diversity and representation within the organization.

This achievement builds on the commitment and engagement of many women within GRUR over the past decade. Key milestones included the 2013 amendment of the GRUR statutes to ensure broader representation of women in the General Board, and the collaboration with Dr. Nordemann-Schiffel on the Executive Board since 2017, paving the way for this moment to happen naturally and meaningfully.

This historic election reflects GRUR’s continued evolution and dedication to inclusivity, excellence, and the advancement of intellectual property law in Germany and beyond.
