The managing partner of Dentons in Spain Jesús Varela is to leave the firm, along with two other partners, to join Pérez-Llorca.

The news of Varela’s imminent departure has come as a major surprise as he was appointed Dentons’ Spain managing partner in February 2019 for a three-year term.
Joining Varela in the move from Dentons to Pérez-Llorca are the firm’s head of tax in Madrid, partner José Ramón Vizcaino, and litigation and arbitration partner Julio Parrilla.
It is undoubtedly a blow for Dentons’ Spanish operation, which had embarked on a programme of ambitious growth with the objective of more than doubling the firm’s size in Spain in terms of lawyer numbers.
Varela, who specialises in real estate, has been with Dentons for nearly nine years, prior to that he was a partner at Linklaters. Meanwhile, Vizcaino has been with the firm for almost seven years and Parrilla has been with the firm for just over three years.
Pérez-Llorca is the twelfth biggest law firm in Spain by revenue, and the fourth biggest Spanish-headquartered law firm. In 2019, its revenue increased by nearly 19 per cent to €64 million.
The annual revenue of Dentons’ Spanish operation is approximately €17 million.
