Cuatrecasas has appointed José Goyburu as a new partner in its finance practice in Lima.

The appointment further strengthens the firm’s leadership position in Peru and the region. His appointment will allow the firm to continue expanding its increasingly comprehensive and sophisticated service offering in Latin America, while reaffirming its commitment to a practice with growing demand for specialized advice.

The firm’s Lima finance practice combines top-tier transactional counsel with in-depth regulatory knowledge, enabling José to provide 360° advice on banking and capital markets matters.

José brings over 20 years of professional experience and a distinguished track record in the banking and financial sector. Before joining the firm, he worked at a renowned Peruvian law firm as co-head of the banking and finance and capital markets practices, served as legal manager at a Peruvian fiduciary business, and was a senior legal advisor at one of Peru's leading banks.

A graduate of the Universidad Pontifica Católica del Perú, José also holds a master's degree in banking and financial law, specializing in banking regulation, from the same university, and a diploma in business management for lawyers from the Universidad del Pacífico.

His work on complex transactions and his track record in the market has been recognized by prestigious directories.

“I am very excited to join Cuatrecasas as a partner, especially because I believe we share the same professional and personal values,” José said regarding his appointment.

“It is truly a privilege to join a team with such a high level of professional and technical expertise. This is an exciting challenge for me. I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me by Oscar Trelles, my partners in the Lima office, and the firm in general, and excited to actively contribute to this new stage of growth and shared success, where we will continue to anticipate the needs of our clients, always seeking to generate a positive impact on those who trust us,” he added.

Oscar Trelles, managing partner of Cuatrecasas' Lima office, said: "The addition of José, who has over 20 years of experience advising top-tier banks and financial institutions on their most complex financial transactions and is recognized as an expert in leading international directories, allows us to continue building a project that combines technical specialization, excellence, and the depth of an international platform at the service of our clients."

José’s arrival is part of Cuatrecasas' strategic plan to consolidate teams that can provide excellent service to the growth of highly complex transactional activity. His experience will be fundamental in adding value to the financial practice and strengthening the offering of specialized sector-specific advice, providing clients with effective solutions aligned with their objectives, the firm said.
