CMS has announced the appointment of Juan Carlos Escudero as the new chair of the Latin America region, effective June 1, 2025.

Currently a partner at CMS Peru and former managing partner of the Peruvian firm, Juan Carlos succeeds Jorge Allende Z., senior partner at CMS Chile, who has held this position since 2017.

Founded in 1999, CMS is an international organization of independent law firms that offers full-service legal and tax advice, with 84 offices in 49 countries and more than 6,800 lawyers.

As chair of the Latin America region, Juan Carlos will lead the CMS Latin America committee, the governance body responsible for growth initiatives and CMS’s geographic expansion in Latin America.

He is also a member of the CMS executive committee.

Jorge Allende Z., who has been appointed past president, stated, “Juan Carlos has been a very active and inspirational member of the CMS Latin America Committee since its creation in 2017, when CMS established a regional presence in Latin America. His experience as a managing partner at one of Peru’s most prominent law firms, his commitment to the region, and his strategic mindset are key to CMS’s continued success and growth in the region.”

For his part, Juan Carlos Escudero commented, “Jorge has played a pivotal role in the growth of CMS in Latin America, and for that, we are very grateful. As the first chair of the CMS Latin America region, he has successfully led the regional strategy and key initiatives aimed at building a strong team and offering the best service to our clients in the region.

“In this role and as a trusted member of the CMS Council, he has contributed significantly to the geographic expansion of CMS, including the cooperation with the law firm FAS Advogados in Brazil,” Juan Carlos added.

With a presence in five jurisdictions in Latin America and offices in each country of the Pacific Alliance, CMS is well-established in these markets. The lawyers in Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and Brazil (from FAS Advogados in cooperation with CMS) practice within the legal systems of their respective jurisdictions and also benefit from the global support of CMS.

As a full-service law firm, they work with key players who are shaping business in Latin America, including national and multinational industry leaders and government agencies.
