Chile’s Jara Del Favero promotes former environment minister to partner

Chilean law firm Jara Del Favero has appointed Javier Naranjo Solano as a partner, and who leads the firm’s environment and natural resources area.

The promotion follows Javier’s one-year tenure as a director at the law firm, which the firm describes as having been “marked by his important contribution and environmental vision to clients from diverse productive sectors that must incorporate this variable and its regulations to their daily work”.

“Javier has strongly promoted the area, achieving an outstanding growth and valuation at a transversal level,” the fir said. “He has provided advice to mining projects, reports to the aquaculture and forestry industry, development and accompaniment to the real estate and infrastructure industry, among others, dealing with matters related to environmental assessment, litigation and procedures before the Superintendence of the Environment,” the sector’s regulatory body.

"In my role as a partner at JDF, which I assume with great enthusiasm and responsibility, I will continue to insist on the importance of moving towards sustainable development. And for that it is essential to have a prepared and specialized legal team, capable of providing the appropriate tools in sustainable decisions that allow a sustainable development of the country," Javier said.

A former minister and undersecretary of the environment during the second government of former president Sebastián Piñera, Javier has extensive experience in environmental and administrative law.

He holds a master’s degree in regulatory law from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and has served as head of the legal division of the country’s Environmental Evaluation agency, where he was also head of the department of litigation and administrative appeals.

He is also a member of Chile’s Colegio de Abogados.

"The contribution of the private sector is key in the current discussion on normative and regulatory changes; this allows us to generate a comprehensive view of the state for the sake of growth and sustainable development of Chile. For this reason, our focus is on providing comprehensive legal advice that addresses legal matters from a strategic vision," he added.

Santiago-based Jara Del Favero has been operating for more than 80 years, and is led by a team of eight partners.
