Chile’s CMS Carey & Allende adds corporate, M&A and venture capital partner

Chilean law firm CMS Carey & Allende has announced the incorporation of Ernesto Eckholt as a partner in its corporate/M&A and venture capital areas, and will assume the leadership of the latter.

“Ernesto’s incorporation to our firm our firm reinforces our commitment to excellence and innovation in legal advice for startups and funds, positioning us as a strategic partner for startups and funds,” the firm said in a statement.

“This appointment, together with the recent promotions of Enrique Vergara, Julio Frias and Nicolas Vial in September, demonstrates our continued commitment to the growth and strengthening of our key practice areas,” the firm added.


Ernesto has an outstanding track record in recognized law firms in both Chile and the United States, and has experience in high-impact strategic transactions in the venture capital and M&A fields, participating and guiding processes of mergers and acquisitions, structuring of investment funds, internationalization of businesses and the negotiation of complex deals.

In the field of startups, he has led the structuring of investment rounds, negotiation of shareholder agreements, implementation of stock option plans and provided advice on flip processes to companies in various sectors such as technology, coworking, and retail, energy and food, among others.

During the last few years, Ernesto has been based in California, where he has developed startup consulting and internationalization programs, and which has allowed him to build a valuable network of contacts with accelerators, funds, governmental entities and international startups, continuously advising a diverse portfolio of startups in areas such as SaaS, AgriTech, FinTech, Biotech and FoodTech.


In addition, he is a permanent advisor to boards and C-level executives in several technology companies.


He is also an advisor at Stanford Venture Studio, a program of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, and at the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship at Santa Clara University, supporting the development of ventures with a global impact.


Ernesto holds an LLM from the University of California, Berkeley, and graduated in law from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
