Chile’s Carey names new directors

Chilean law firm Carey, the country’s largest, has named two new directors, Valentina Kuscevic and Tomás Varela.

The firm, which has more than 270 professionals in its legal area, 44 partners, two senior counselors and eight directors, strengthens its areas of labor law and corporate immigration and real estate law with these new positions.

At the beginning of 2023 and after 30 years of experience in corporate immigration, Carey Visas integrated to its services the processing of non-immigrant visas available under the free trade agreement between Chile and the United States for Chileans who wish to reside and/or work temporarily in the United States.

Valentina Kuscevic is part of Carey's labor group and co-directs Carey Visas. She is a lawyer from the Universidad Católica de Chile and has a diploma in labor law and social security from the same university.  She also has a master's degree in labor law and social security from the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez.

She is an international associate of the American Immigration Lawyer Association. With more than 12 years of experience, her practice has specialized in corporate labor and immigration consulting matters for national and multinational companies, including labor matters related to M&A processes and with a special focus on global mobility, expatriation and labor matters associated with cross-border corporate restructuring operations.

Tomás Varela is part of Carey's real estate group. He graduated in law from the Universidad de Los Andes and holds a diploma in corporate real estate law from the same university, and earned an LLM from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

He has worked as a foreign associate at law firm Bilzin Sumberg, in the US, and has more than 13 years of experience as a lawyer, specializing mainly in advising local and foreign clients in the development of real estate projects, including matters related to land use, building permits, title review, sales and purchases, promises, leases, among other civil law matters.
