Carey Advises Brookfield on Sale of Stake in Transelec

Carey has advised Brookfield Asset Management in the sale of its 27.8% stake in Transelec SA, the main electricity transmission company in Chile, to China Southern Power Grid International, a state-owned company. The $1.3 billion deal was signed on December 26th.

 

Established a century ago, Brookfield Asset Management is a Canadian largest asset manager, which owns and operates assets focusing on infrastructure, real estate, renewable energy and private equity.

 

Carey served as legal counsel to Brookfield in Chile with a team led by partner Salvador Valdés, assisted by associates Manuel José Garcés, Arturo Poblete and Raimundo Honorato.

 

Supporting law firms involved were: Goodmans LLP, which served as counsel to Brookfield in Canada and Herbert Smith Freehills which provided counsel to Brookfield in Spain. Linklaters acted as counsel to China Southern Power Grid Int. in NY and HK and Guerrero Olivos as counsel to China Southern in Chile.
