BMA Makes Six New Partners

This wave of promotions takes Barbosa Mussnich Aragão's total partner count to 70.

Full-service player Barbosa Mussnich Aragão (BMA) has promoted six long-serving professionals based in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Brasília to partner level. The wave of promotions, announced in mid-June, sees new partners join the firm’s competition, corporate, finance and intellectual property teams and takes BMA’s total partner count to 70.
 

New Partners

 

Luís Bernardo Cascão has been with BMA since 2009 and is a member of the firm’s competition department as well as its digital law and new technologies practice. Rio-based Mr. Cascão holds a bachelor of laws from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), a master’s in economic law and intellectual property from Universidade Candido Mendes and previously served as a foreign associate at Freshfields Buckhaus Deringer in Brussels. He specializes in competition issues involving the digital environment.

 

Fernanda Pereira Carneiro joined the firm’s Rio-based corporate department in 2002. She dedicates her practice to administrative litigation mandates involving financial regulators such as the Brazilian Securities Commission (CVM), the Brazilian Central Bank (BACEN) and BM&FBovespa Market Supervision (BSM) amongst others. Ms. Carneiro holds a bachelor of laws from Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) as well as an LL.M in corporate law from IBMEC.  

 

José Eduardo Pieri earned an undergraduate degree in law from UFRJ as well as an LL.M in intellectual property from Chicago’s John Marshall Law School. He began his career at IP giants Danemmann Siemsen before joining BMA as a senior associate in 2009. São Paulo-based Mr. Pieri is the firm’s new Intellectual Property and Data Privacy partner and offers clients extensive experience in cases involving patents, trademarks cybersecurity and data protection.

 

Pedro Frankovsky Barroso has been with the firm since 2008 and is well-equipped to advise on mandates involving patents, trademarks, industrial designs and copyrights. He earned a bachelor of laws as well as an LLM from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) and later undertook a master’s in European and International Intellectual Property Law at Université de Strasbourg. Head of the IP litigation practice, Mr. Barroso is BMA’s newest Rio-based intellectual property partner.   

 

New corporate partner Luciana Magalhães Costa joined BMA in 2002 and has over 15 years of experience handling major corporate restructurings, M&A transactions and joint ventures on behalf of companies from the infrastructure, telecommunications and mining sectors. She holds a bachelor of laws from UFRJ, a postgraduate degree in civil constitutional law from UERJ and a master’s in business economics from Fundação Getúlio Vargas de São Paulo (FGV – SP).

 

Rodolfo de Tella is BMA’s newest finance and capital markets partner. Formerly an in-house lawyer at Bradesco, Mr. de Tella joined BMA in 2013 as a senior associate of the capital markets department. He has an established track record providing counsel to both financial institutions and companies in a wide range of finance, securities and corporate transactions.
