Axel Schulz joins Brussels office of McDermott Will & Emery
Axel Schulz has left White & Case to become a partner in the antitrust practice of McDermott Will & Emery in Brussels.
McDermott Will & Emery made waves in the legal sector last month with the Paris branch partner-promotions of Marie-Muriel Barthelet, Herschel Guez and Shirin Deyhim. Now the Chicago-headquartered firm is back in the limelight, following the capture of ex-White & Case European competition-law specialist, Axel Schulz.
Schulz’ arrival will allow McDermott Will & Emery to “develop collaboration with an enlarged regulatory practice” remarked Ray Jacobsen, global head of the firm’s antitrust practice. Schulz will work alongside Hendrik Viaene, Stephane Dionnet and Jacques Buhart in Brussels.
An expert in competition, German and European law, Schulz has a long track-record of success in merger control, global cartel defense and antitrust cases, notably involving members of the energy, chemicals, shipping, medical devices and pharmaceuticals sectors, and is regularly involved in litigation before the European Commission and the European Court of Justice.
Axel Schulz had spent his entire career up to this point with White & Case, which he joined in 2000, making partner in 2012. A member of the Brussels and Munich bar associations, he has an LL.M from Bruges College of Europe, and a law degree from the University of Konstanz.
