Dorsey & Whitney opens in Beijing

Dorsey has opened the new office in Beijing in order to serve its Beijing-based clients effectively, while keeping an eye on future growth in the Greater China region. Corporate partner Frank Hong, who joined the Shanghai office in 2013, will serve as head of the new office in the Chinese capital. Mr. Hong’s practice focuses on advising international companies on their direct investments into China, as well as providing advice to Chinese multinational corporations on their activity abroad. He has substantial experience in cross-border M&A, intellectual property and international trade, as well as Customs in both the United States and China.  

The US-based international firm has had an office in Hong Kong since 1995 and opened in Shanghai in 2004. Dorsey’s Greater China market has seen considerable growth over the few years, and in 2014, nearly 150(about 20%) of the firm’s lawyers situated globally performed significant work on China-related matters.

This follows a trend over the past few months of expansions into Asia. Watson Farley recently entered Vietnam (October 2015), whilst Allen & Overy opened an office in Seoul (September 2015). Garrigues has expanded its China interest, having also added a Beijing office to their China offering (September 2015)
