Watson Farley enters Vietnam with eye on China move

Watson Farley & Williams has agreed on an association with Hanoi-based boutique firm LVN & Associates and confirms it is looking at expanding into mainland China.

London-based Watson Farley & Williams (WFW)’s new association and co-operation agreement is with LVN & Associates, which was formerly associated with Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.  WFW co-managing Partner, Chris Lowe, said that the firm would concentrate on its core sectors: energy & natural resources and transport, in the Vietnamese capital.

 

LVN, a four-lawyer boutique firm, was founded in 2010 by former Hong Kong Orrick advisor Linh Quynh Doan. The firm is best known for its energy and project finance practices.

 

WFW also indicated that they are looking into launching in China, but are waiting to find the right talent to align with their areas of specialization.  The firm expanded into Hong Kong in 2012, then also entering into an association with a local firm, Lau Leong & Co. WFW’s current offerings in the Asia-Pacific region include Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore. The firm has over 450 lawyers and more than 140 partners in 14 offices spread across 11 countries.
