The corporate US law firm has launched in Brussels, opening its first office in the old continent for over two decades.

The US firm has hired Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati EU competition and antitrust head Michael Rosenthal to lead the new office.

Rosenthal is joining S&C as partner to work on EU and German competition matters from the Palo Alto-based firm, which is best known for its work related to technology companies. Recently Rosenthal advised German chemicals conglomerate Bayer on its $66bn acquisition of US agribusiness Monsanto, which is in front of European Commission regulators.

S&C is one of the top firms advising multinational companies on cross-border transactions, which often require clearance from regulators in a number of jurisdictions.

He will be based in Brussels and become a member of the firm’s global antitrust and competition group.
