He will also co-lead the firm’s telecommunications, media and technology area.
With more than 15 years of experience in competition law and having participated in several of the most emblematic cases presented before Peru’s antitrust watchdog INDECOPI, Giancarlo’s incorporation into the firm brings the partner count at Hernández & Cía to 26.
He holds an LLM from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a certified data protection expert from the Institute of Audit & IT-Governance. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in market law from the Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas, and a law degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
Juan Luis Hernández, managing partner at the firm, stated: "Giancarlo is a professional with extensive experience in competition matters and we know that, under his leadership, we will be able to gain more market share in this practice. In addition, his knowledge in corporate merger control is very important to complement our robust M&A area, given the prior control regime in charge of INDECOPI that has been implemented in the country for the last three years”.
“We are always looking for excellence and this move goes in that direction," he added.
For his part, Giancarlo added: "Joining a consolidated firm such as Hernández & Cía. is a challenge that I take on with great enthusiasm and responsibility because it is a clear leader in the Peruvian market and has first-class clients who expect sophisticated and timely legal services".
Prior to joining the firm, Giancarlo was as a senior associate at Payet, Rey, Cauvi, Pérez Abogados, and has also held the position of associate at Estudio Echecopar and has been part of the INDECOPI competition defense court.
