Latham & Watkins LLP has announced the addition of David Marriott, one of the most prominent and successful trial lawyers in the US, as a partner in the antitrust and competition practice and a member of the litigation and trial department in New York.

Focused on guiding multinational companies through their most high-stakes disputes, David Marriott regularly handles precedent-setting antitrust litigation, and brings significant experience in intellectual property, complex commercial, and securities litigation matters.

Widely recognized as among the country’s standout trial attorneys, David handles bet-the-company cases and has tried disputes in both federal and state courts across the US and successfully handled appeals across numerous high-growth industries, including media and entertainment, technology, healthcare and biotech, telecoms, consumer goods, heavy industry, and transportation.

“We’re immensely proud of our firm’s ability to achieve transformational successes for our clients,” said Rich Trobman, Lathan & Watkins’ chair and managing partner. “The addition of Dave, a formidable talent and leading trial lawyer known for winning the hardest cases, makes perfect sense as we focus on delivering sophisticated legal advice that enables our clients to see around corners, beat down challenges to achieving their business goals, and further hone their competitive position.”

“In addition to being a critical hub for our world-class transactional practice, New York is also a key center for litigation, and Dave is at the top of the bar,” added Marc Jaffe, managing partner of the firm’s New York office. “With a tremendous track record handling complex disputes and a reputation for excellence, Dave is a superb addition to our market-leading New York litigation team and an invaluable asset for our clients.”

“In just four months, Latham has added the top antitrust litigators on each side of the Atlantic, Dave and Alfonso LaMadrid, to our already elite global antitrust practice,” said Mike Egge, the firm’s global chair of the antitrust and competition practice.

“Clients today want the complete package in antitrust — a team that can clear their biggest strategic deals anywhere in the world, combined with best-in-class litigators to defeat any possible challenges to those deals and to defend their everyday business conduct. Dave is a proven winner in court, and his joining our team makes every part of our offering more compelling. We have known and admired Dave for years, having worked alongside him on two antitrust merger trial wins over the last four years, and we are absolutely thrilled to call him our partner,” he added.

For his part, David Marriott said: “I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to practice alongside and across from Latham multiple times over my career, and I couldn’t be more excited to become part of this exceptional team”.

“It wasn’t just the firm’s renowned global platform and its position as the go-to elite antitrust team that attracted me. Latham’s collaborative culture, and the firm’s ability to seamlessly provide comprehensive legal solutions to companies around the world, make for the perfect pairing to help drive my practice forward, particularly as litigation challenges grow more complex and multi-faceted,” the new partner added.

David Marriott is a fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He teaches antitrust, intellectual property, and trial practice as an adjunct professor at New York University School of Law and is a lecturer at Columbia University School of Law.

He joins the firm from Cravath, Swaine & Moore, and received his JD from New York University School of Law and his BA magna cum laude from Brigham Young University.
