India's largest law firm Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co will split in April after months of internal turmoil.
After months of legal disputes between brothers and managing partners Shardul and Cyril Shroff, India's largest law firm Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co has agreed to split the 600-lawyer firm. The decision will be effective as of April 2015.

The Shroff brothers entered into a legal battle last year after the death of their mother, who left her entire share in the practice to the elder brother, Shardul. After third-party mediation failed to settle down the wrangling between the brothers over unequal equity shares, the firm will now split equally between them. Shardul will control the Delhi region including offices in Gurgaon, Kolkata and Ahmedabad, whereas Cyril will oversee the Mumbai side that is Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai branches.

Amarchand has been awarded several times in the category of Best Indian Law Firm in International Legal Alliance Summit & Awards (ILASA) of Leaders League since 2009. It also has had excellent rankings in all of our 2014 international guides.
