Hispasat, part of Redeia, has partnered with Eutelsat and SES to form the SpaceRISE consortium, sealing agreements with the European Commission and ESA to launch IRIS², the EU’s first €10.5B public-private aerospace investment.

Hispasat, part of Redeia, has signed agreements with the European Commission and the European Space Agency (ESA) to create the SpaceRISE consortium with Eutelsat and SES for the launch of IRIS² (Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnectivity and Security by Satellite). Valued at over €10.5 billion, IRIS² is the first public-private co-investment model (PPP) in the European aerospace sector.

The SpaceRISE consortium will design, build, and operate 290 low-Earth and medium-Earth orbit satellites over the next 12 years. Hispasat will be responsible for the ground segment, managing the operation of the constellation’s orbital layers and interconnection with terrestrial networks.

Hispasat's investment could reach up to €600 million, giving it access to non-geostationary orbit capabilities in key strategic regions. This will expand its business verticals, product offerings, and geographic reach, strengthening its role as a leader in satellite-based communications.

The legal advisors for this transaction included Addleshaw Goddard, with their team led by partner Roberto Pomares and associate Rosa Chen, from the firm’s Corporate Law Department. Roberto Pomares points out that "IRIS² is a key project for communications security in the European Union and, without a doubt, the presence of Hispasat places it as one of the leading aerospace companies in Europe. It has been a pleasure for us to accompany the entire Hispasat team in this project".
