The acquisition of the Bonete PV projects, which was made via the acquisition of the relevant project companies, marks Helios’ entry into the Spanish renewables market.

The projects were part of the PV capacity awarded to Cobra in Spain’s third renewables auction and registered in the Specific Retribution Regime Registry at a pre-allocation status.

Helios Energy Investments manages a group of funds and several co-investment vehicles, with more than €500 million of invested capital. Helios’ portfolio includes more than 600 megawatts of income-generating energy projects – in sectors such as solar PV, wind, biogas, and energy from waste – located in Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Poland and the UK.

Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) advised Helios on the acquisition and the related financing. The financing was negotiated with a syndicate of financial institutions comprising Banco de Sabadell, Kommunalkredit Austria, Crédit Industriel et Commercial, Nomura International and Siemens Bank.

Other advisers on the deal were OCA Global (technical adviser) and Aon (insurance adviser)

The Madrid-based WFW energy team advising Helios was led by Madrid office managing partner María Pilar García Guijarro, and included partners Jose María Anarte, David Diez and Luis Soto, as well as senior associate Román Pazos and associate Iñigo Bastarreche

García Guijarro said WFW hoped to continue to support Helios on its “future investments in Spain”. Anarte said the finalisation of the deal confirmed the "ongoing interest of international investors in the Spanish energy sector".

The managing partners of Helios Energy Investments are Nimrod Goor and Erez Gissin.
