Eversheds incorporates Óscar Báscones, former head of legal counsel at Santander Spain

Eversheds Sutherland has appointed Óscar Báscones as new of counsel in the Banking and Finance Department in its Spanish office, in order to increase the range of services offered and the development of new strategic initiatives.
Báscones has extensive experience in corporate governance positions in supervised entities, both at the Bank of Spain and the Directorate General of Insurance. He was director of the Legal Department of Santander Spain until January of this year. Throughout his professional career in Santander Group, which he joined in 1990 as legal advisor, he has held the positions of general director of Legal and Compliance Services of Santander Spain and director of the Legal Department of Commercial Banking, Private Banking, Means of Payment and Insurance of Santander. He is currently non-executive chairman of Diners Club Spain and non-executive chairman of Santander Mediación Operador de Banca Seguros Vinculado.
Báscones holds a law degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and a master's degree in business law from the Instituto de Empresa. He also holds a diploma in real estate law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a management development program from IESE (Universidad de Navarra). He is currently the director of the Course of Access to the Legal Profession at the Madrid Bar Association (ICAM).
