Ms. Bumachar has a solid background, which includes “reorganizations, company recovery, bankruptcy, civil and commercial litigation and arbitration and multilateral negotiations.” The firm adds that “Laura has acted in and led several high-profile cases in all such areas.”
Ms. Bumachar started her major-firm career in 2002, as a senior associate at BMA – Barbosa, Mussnich & Aragao. She made her debut as a partner in 2010 when she joined Tauil Chequer/Mayer Brown. In 2011, she became one of the founding partners of Soares Bumachar Chagas Barros Advogados, which, after a series of restructurings, became Soares Bumachar in 2017. The office Ms. Bumachar helped to established closed its doors after she departed to join Dias Carneiro Advogados and her partner, Eduardo Soares, joined Lefosse Advogados in October 2017.
Commenting on the hiring Dias Carneiro Advogados said: “The arrival of Laura and her team will definitely enhance such practices of DCA, in which the firm is already recognized as an established and prominent player in the market. With a team of 15 lawyers, the goal is to consolidate and improve the position of these practices among the top Brazilian law firms.”
The firm also shared its thoughts on the skills of Ms. Bumachar: “Laura is widely recognized for the quality of her work by the market and her peers and, since 2011, she has been appointed as a reference (leading lawyer) in Bankruptcy/Restructuring and Dispute Resolution by relevant specialized rankings and publications.”
With this hire, DCA intends to back up its litigation/bankruptcy practice, which was affected by the departure of three main partners Joel Luís Thomaz Bastos, Ivo Waisberg and Bruno Kurzweil in late 2016. Laura Bumachar being a high-profile litigator, especially in bankruptcy, this new move might help DCA restore its former fame in the field.
On the other hand, Laura Bumachar’s firm was undergoing serious reorganization after co-founder Eduardo Soares left to join Lefosse Advogados. Given the situation, this hire does look like a perfect match. Let’s wish them the best of luck.
