CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo appoints Alfonso Codes as co-managing partner in Spain

The Extraordinary General Meeting of Partners at CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo has unanimously appointed Alfonso Codes, partner in the Public Law and Regulated Sectors practice, as the firm’s new co-managing partner, alongside César Albiñana, effective immediately. The appointment follows a proposal by the firm’s Board of Directors.

This change comes after María González Gordon stepped down from her management responsibilities in April to focus fully on her role as Head of Intellectual Property and Digital Business, as well as her position as Co-Head of CMS’s global Digital Business group.

Alfonso Codes has been involved in the firm’s management since 2022, serving as a member of both the Board of Directors and the Management Committee. His appointment aligns with the firm’s 2024–2026 Strategic Plan, which emphasizes sustainable growth, a strong business development culture, and continued excellence in legal services—while fostering talent and a sense of belonging.

A State Attorney on leave, Codes has extensive experience in public law, both advisory and contentious. He has also held senior positions within Spain’s central government, notably serving as Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment.
