China Southern Power Grid’s Peruvian arm lands $319m loan

The Peruvian arm of China Southern Power Grid International (CSGI) has secured a $319 million credit facility from Bank of China.

The funds will be used to finance CSGI’s acquisition of the remaining stake in Enel’s Peruvian assets.

In June, Enel announced that Enel Perú, controlled through Enel Américas, finalized the sale of the entire equity stakes held by Enel Perú in power distribution and supply company Enel Distribución Perú and in advanced energy services company Enel X Perú to North Lima Power Grid Holding, which is controlled by CSGI.

The transaction met with the regulatory requirements of Peruvian antitrust and Chinese outbound direct investments.

The transaction had a total value of $3.1 billion and the deal entails a reduction of the Enel Group’s consolidated net debt of around 2.9 billion euros and fully confirms the execution of the company’s 2024-2026 Strategic Plan.

Bank of China was counseled in Peru by DLA Piper (Peru), and whose team was led by partner Sergio Barboza, with Reyna Silva-Santisteban, Ricardo Mercado Espinosa and Alexandra del Río Cárdenas.
