Empaque Sustentable, a Chilean startup that crates sustainable food wrappings, has raised a seed-funding round, led by family office Inversiones Panorámica, owned by the Reutter Palma family.

The company has been operating for four years and has positioned itself as a cleantech expert in zero waste packaging for mass food consumption, and among its clients are IKEA, Aramark, Sodexo and Rappi.

Empaque Sustentable aims to help companies reduce their environmental footprint by designing and developing biodegradable packaging made only from renewable raw materials. Initially, it focused on the delivery service, but today it is also positioned in the food industry and mass consumption retail.

From 2020, Empaque Sustentable has doubled its annual sales volume, and is focused on working with modern and responsible brands that are looking to reduce their environmental impact.

In 2022, Empaque Sustentable eliminated 620 tons of single-use plastic and 68.1 million plastic bags, helping more than 480 companies to innovate in a sustainable way, working with brands that value sustainability.

The company has strengthened with the appointment of new directors, Francisco Reutter, who was formerly the VP for the European market at Concha y Toro, and Carlos Correa, who was a private equity manager at Ameris Capital.

"In our constant search for investments in new emerging businesses with entrepreneurial talent, we found Empaque Sustentable that met these conditions. We are pleased to support this fast-growing company that helps other companies to meet their sustainability goals by eliminating plastic in their supply chain," Reutter Palma family office said in a statement.

Empaque Sustentable was represented in the fundraising round by Chilean law firm Estudio Zapata.
