Brazilian Law Firm Candido Martins Advogados has used the opportunity of the arrival of former BMA Advogados partner Alex Cukier to rebrand as Candido Martins Cukier Advogados.
The partner hire and name change marks the beginning of a new phase in the firm’s development and strengthens its position as it celebrates 15 years in the corporate legal market.
Cukier enhances the firm’s expertise in mergers and acquisitions, special situations, and corporate litigation. A graduate of PUC-RJ, he was a partner at Barbosa Musnich & Aragão Advogados for 20 years, focusing on mergers and acquisitions. In recent years, he worked as an entrepreneur and investor, co-founding companies such as Impact Legal Performance, Pact, and Ventoo Capital, where he participated in various special situations projects involving distressed assets. Additionally, he has invested in legal tech companies like Loy and Turivius.
“I have no doubt that my previous legal knowledge helped me navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship, and now I will apply all the experience I gained as an entrepreneur and investor upon returning to legal practice. I will be able to offer our clients the full range of insights accumulated throughout this journey,” said Cukier.
The arrival of the new partner aligns with the firm’s strategic growth phase, which saw a 50% increase in its team in 2024. Recently, Candido Martins Cukier expanded its operations to Madrid, aiming to strengthen relationships with private equity funds, investors, and financial advisors. It also launched a new practice area dedicated to corporate disputes. Looking ahead to 2025, the firm expects continued growth, in addition to further consolidation and team expansion.
“We are optimistic about the future. With Alex Cukier joining us, we can say that the firm is undergoing a reformation process. This is a significant step in solidifying our role in the legal market, expanding our impact at a time when Brazil is facing major economic challenges,” stated founding partner Alamy Candido.
Founding partner Henrique Martins added that the firm is aiming for growth in revenue of more than 50% in 2025, to be achieved by increasing its activity in mergers and acquisitions, financial markets, special situations, tax litigation, corporate law and wealth management.
“We anticipate a challenging yet opportunity filled year, and Alex’s arrival, along with the strengthening of these key practice areas, will prepare us not only for this year but for the future as well!” concluded Martins.
