Souto Correa unveils Guilherme Amaral as new managing partner
In early December, thriving full-service law firm Souto Correa Advogados announced the appointment of partner Guilherme Rizzo Amaral as the firm’s new managing partner for a three-year mandate starting on January 1, 2022. Mr. Amaral succeeds Carlos Souto who has occupied the position since the firm’s foundation in 2013 and will step down at the end of this year.
“The succession process was very natural. It started in August 2020 with the creation of a succession committee and resulted in a unanimous vote by the firm’s partners. We are very happy with the result and excited about the prospect of having Guilherme in this leadership role.”, stated Mr. Souto.
Guilherme Amaral holds over two decades of experience in the legal market, focusing his practice in arbitration and litigation domestically and abroad. In addition to being one of Souto Correa’s founding partners, he is also a member of the ICC Belt and Road Commission. Academically, Mr. Amaral holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master’s degree, both from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUC-RS), as well as a Doctorate’s degree from Universidade Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS).
Souto Correa revealed that, given the many changes that the Covid-19 pandemic brought to the legal practice, including the use of technology on a broad scale, the firm has been focusing on deepening its connection with its home-grown talents, national and international clients and peers. Mr. Amaral also affirmed that the firm's Diversity Committee is one of Souto Correa’s top priorities and vowed to invest in institutional diversity and inclusion initiatives.
“We will carry on the excellent work that allowed for the complete transformation of a small regional firm into a national player, with over 140 lawyers, offices in Porto Alegre, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília, and recognition in Brazil and abroad. We will stand by the same values that brought us here, while strengthening our culture to meet the demands of the challenging times that lie ahead”, stated the new managing partner about his new challenge.
