Santiago Sainz Ruiz joins Spanish Belda, Bordón & Merodio to lead its Financial Law and Restructuring department, bringing more than twelve years of national and international experience from Uría Menéndez, where he most recently served as a senior associate.

Sainz specializes in advising debtors and creditors on corporate finance, project finance, acquisition finance, and debt restructuring. Over the years, he has worked with some of Spain’s leading companies, particularly in the energy, infrastructure, and real estate sectors.

He also spent six months at Slaughter and May in London, where he was involved in financing and debt restructuring transactions governed by English law. In addition to his finance expertise, Sainz has led several M&A transactions in the energy and real estate sectors, advising funds and industrial groups on investment and divestment processes.

Pedro Belda, partner at the firm and head of the M&A practice, commented: “Santiago’s arrival marks a major step in our ongoing consolidation as a leading business law firm in Spain. His experience and expertise strengthen our ability to offer innovative legal solutions tailored to the current demands of the market. We are confident that Santiago shares this culture and that his addition will significantly enhance our capacity to advise clients on investments in complex environments.”

Sainz also highlighted the strategic importance of the mid-market segment in the Spanish economy: “Mid-market companies are fundamental to the business fabric but often face barriers that limit their growth. It is essential to design financing structures that meet their needs, enabling them to operate and expand without the constraints they sometimes encounter.”
