McDermott announces record partner promotions following landmark merger

Publicado el 27 oct 2025

McDermott Will & Schulte has unveiled a record-breaking round of promotions — the first since the firm’s landmark 2025 merger — appointing 74 new partners and 13 new counsel across its global offices. The promotions span 17 U.S. cities, with a particularly strong showing in New York, the former base of Schulte Roth & Zabel, and extend across France, Germany, Italy, the U.K. and the U.S.

The class represents a 32% increase over the combined promotions of legacy firms McDermott Will & Emery and Schulte Roth & Zabel prior to their merger.

“These new partners embody the bold thinking, client focus, and leadership that power our culture,” said Ira Coleman, Chairman of McDermott. “Their growth demonstrates what’s possible when talent meets opportunity — and reflects McDermott’s role as a true career accelerant.”

While the promotions touch on 12 different practice areas, the largest share is concentrated in the transactions group, a key growth engine for the combined firm. Other promoted partners come from practices including private client, regulatory, tax, IP, employment, health and life sciences, and litigation.

Like several peers, McDermott did not distinguish between equity and nonequity partners in this round. Historically, about two-thirds of McDermott’s partnership has been nonequity, while Schulte introduced its nonequity tier only shortly before the merger in early 2025.

The announcement comes less than three months after the two firms formally completed their merger, creating a new Am Law 100 powerhouse.

“Our enhanced resources are second to none, particularly in private credit, regulatory, and investment funds,” noted Harris Siskind, Global Head of Transactions. “We’re doubling down on the areas where clients need us most, with integrated teams delivering unmatched value.”

McDermott joins a growing list of top-tier firms announcing record promotion rounds this season. Kirkland & Ellis promoted at least 225 lawyers to partnership — a new firm record — while Ropes & Gray added 21 equity partners, and White & Case also reported its largest-ever class.
