Ecuador’s Bustamante Fabara names 2 new directors

Ecuadorian law firm Bustamante Fabara has announced the promotion of two senior associates, Gustavo Almeida and Bruno Pesantes, to director, in the firm’s environmental, energy and natural resources practices.

Gustavo Almeida has in-depth knowledge of the structuring of energy projects, having led regulatory processes for generation, self-generation and distributed generation initiatives, and he has successfully negotiated concession contracts, public-private partnership contracts and infrastructure agreements.

With extensive in-house experience at Ecuador's largest oil and gas company, he brings valuable perspectives on participation and service contracts, integrated services with financing and regulatory matters. Her mining practice includes legal support on enabling titles, royalty agreements, regulatory compliance and due diligence processes.

In environmental law, he advises on due diligence, environmental licensing, challenges to sanctions and environmental compliance in multiple sectors. In addition, he has participated in emblematic transactions with a high environmental component. Beyond his legal practice,

Gustavo is founding president of the Ecuadorian Institute of Energy and Natural Resources Law (IEDERN).

Also promoted to director, Bruno Pesantes advises local and international clients on energy and natural resources, with a special emphasis on regulatory law in mining, oil and gas, as well as environmental and corporate law.

He has extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, particularly in regulatory, strategic, environmental and operational matters. He actively participates in relevant contract negotiations with the state and the national oil company, Empresa Nacional de Petróleo.

In the mining sector, he advises on obtaining governmental authorizations and provides legal advice on regulatory, environmental and project structuring issues. He also has vast experience in complex transactions and acquisitions of mining projects, as well as in negotiations with the State for the signing of strategic agreements and in international disputes.

In environmental law, he advises companies in various sectors on regulatory compliance, permitting, audits and due diligence. She has worked in high impact projects, supporting in the mitigation of environmental risks, management of community conflicts and implementation of new regulations to ensure legal compliance in business operations.
